Rep. Nicole Malliotakis Highlights Migrant Crimes in NYC and Terrorism Concerns After NYPD Officers Assaulted
In a House Republican roundtable on Wednesday, Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) addressed rising concerns about crimes committed by migrants in New York City. She emphasized the need to address these issues promptly and expressed worries about potential terrorism threats stemming from President Biden's border policies.
Opening her remarks, Rep. Malliotakis recounted a recent incident in Times Square where two police officers were beaten by a mob of migrants. She promptly contacted the director of ICE for New York, urging for the deportation of those involved in the assault. Malliotakis stressed her belief that individuals who pay cartels thousands of dollars to be smuggled into the country and then commit crimes should not be allowed to stay.
The congresswoman pointed out that New York City's policies, including providing housing, education, legal services, and other incentives, were attracting individuals with criminal intentions. She criticized the misinterpretation of New York City's right to shelter law, which was intended for New Yorkers but has been extended to migrants.
Rep. Malliotakis listed several instances of crimes committed by migrants in New York City, including assaults on NYPD officers, DUI-related incidents, and even a case of fatal violence at the Rikers Island shelter. She argued that such incidents are happening too frequently and demanded immediate action.
Furthermore, Malliotakis raised concerns about the unfair treatment of legal immigrants who have been patiently waiting for their cases. She highlighted a case of a woman from Belarus with a clear asylum claim, who has been delayed in court due to the prioritization of those who arrived more recently.
Addressing the broader issue, Malliotakis voiced her apprehensions about potential terrorism threats in a post-9/11 world. She pointed out that 361 individuals on the terror watchlist were stopped at the southern border alone. Additionally, she expressed worry about the estimated 1.8 million migrants who have entered undetected, emphasizing the lack of information about their identities, whereabouts, and intentions.
In seeking clarity on these concerns, Rep. Malliotakis called upon experts, including Brandon, to shed light on the potential security risks associated with unmonitored and undocumented individuals entering the country. The congresswoman urged a reevaluation of President Biden's executive orders, emphasizing the need to prioritize national security and protect American citizens.
