At today's House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) slammed ex-Twitter executives over her past banning.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Congresswoman from Georgia, recently dropped the hammer on former Twitter executives over her ban from the social media platform. In her speech, she accused the company of violating her First Amendment right to free speech and interfering with her campaign.
According to her, her Twitter account was permanently banned on January 2nd, 2022, and was not reinstated until November 21st, 2022, after her election. This resulted in her being unable to use her account to advertise her campaign, raise money, and communicate with her constituents.
Greene also accused Twitter of being biased towards Democrats, as over 98% of Twitter employees reportedly donate to the Democratic Party. She claimed that the company had coordinated with government agencies such as the DHS, FBI, and CIA to shadowban and permanently ban conservative Americans and candidates. She further pointed out that the employees who made these decisions were not elected officials or security clearance holders and had no right to interfere with the rights of others to vote or express their opinions.
In her speech, Greene also touched upon the issue of child pornography on the platform. She expressed her disgust at the fact that the company was unable to remove child porn and instead allowed it to flourish on the platform. She mentions that Elon Musk bought Twitter and banned 44,000 accounts that were promoting child pornography.
She also criticized the former director of trust and safety at Twitter, who she claimed had written a doctoral dissertation arguing that minors should have access to a gay hookup app and had also written tweets questioning the ability of high school students to consent to sex with their teachers.
Regarding her own ban from the platform, Greene stated that she had been discussing topics such as the deaths reported by the CDC and her opposition to mandatory non-FDA-approved vaccines and masks. She pointed out that many people agreed with her views and that she was a member of Congress, whereas the employees who banned her were not.
In conclusion, Greene's speech was a clear attempt to hold the former Twitter executives accountable for the actions they took while employed at the company. She accused them of violating her First Amendment rights and interfering with her campaign and criticized their inability to remove child pornography from the platform.
She also pointed out the biases within the company towards the Democratic Party and highlighted the importance of free speech and the right to express one's opinions without fear of censorship.
