President Biden to deliver a prime-time speech in front of Independence Hall
A big weekend for Philadelphia means a busy one for Philadelphia police. The main stage of Made in America is already up here in front of the art museum and the police department to host these two major events. Trying to prevent another security scare like the shooting we saw recently at the Fourth of July fireworks show.
Philadelphia police preparing for President Biden's visit, Made In America Festival
On Tuesday, our cameras captured military aircraft circling the city and federal agents touring city hall. An inspector with the police force tells us about the departmental preparation mode for a presidential visit on Thursday. This weekend, officers will be trying to prevent a repeat of the Fourth of July, when a few officers were trying to prevent being shot and thousands were sent scrambling for safety concerns at the sound of gunshots.
Despite increasing safety concerns, former Philadelphia police deputy commissioner Joe Sullivan says people shouldn't be afraid to enjoy major events, and the city shouldn't stop hosting them. The 4th of July fireworks show will be held here on the Ben Franklin Parkway, just like Made in America will be this weekend. We've seen several police officers stationed here on the parkway throughout the morning hours. The police presence will increase throughout the city starting today, ahead of President Biden's presidential address tonight here in Philadelphia.
