Donald Trump wins CPAC 2024 GOP presidential nomination straw poll, with Ron DeSantis second

Former President Donald J. Trump easily won the 2024 GOP presidential nomination straw poll at the CPAC 2022 gathering this weekend in Orlando, Florida. Donald emerged as the clear winner in the Conservative Political Action Conference, highly anticipated presidential straw poll, capturing massive support in a hypothetical primary match-up and cementing his status as the heavy favorite for the 2024 Republican nomination among the most devoted conservatives.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis finished with second place with 28 percent support, making him the only other prospective candidate to notch double-digit support. In last year’s straw poll, DeSantis notched 21% support.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gets just 2% support, finished in third place.

Former Vice President Mike Pence only gets 1% at the CPAC poll without Trump even though he’s in 2nd in every primary poll. Trump remains the most popular & influential politician in the Republican Party as he continues to play the role of kingmaker's in GOP primaries, won 55% support a year ago in the CPAC Orlando straw poll. Donald jumped to 70 percent support in the 2024 straw poll conducted last July at CPAC in Dallas.

Even after losing the 2020 bid, Donald Trump remains one of the most popular and would likely run away with the 2024 GOP presidential nomination should he mount a comeback bid. After seeing the CPAC results Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich touted on Twitter, he said:

President Trump continues to grow the conservative MAGA movement, which includes growing his political dominance. What a great conference—the MAGA wave is going to crash over 2022 in a historic fashion.

Throughout the 4-day CPAC conference, attendees of this event repeatedly said that they remain supportive of Donald Trump, but also expressed a growing interest in Ron DeSantis. Around 2500 people attended this CPAC 2022 conference in Florida who had voted on the straw poll.

Trump captured 59% of ballots cast in the anonymous online straw poll, as per the results declared:

- Desantis 28%

- Pompeo 2%

- Noem 1%

- Paul 1%

- Pence 1%

- Haley 1%

- Youngkin 1%

- Scott 1%

No one else hit 1%
