Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is asked if the Disney Reedy Creek district should be dissolved.
While addressing the media at Titusville, Florida a journalist asked DeSantis:
We switched gears a little, but I know you've talked about Walt Disney it feels like for the last couple of days. But here in Central Florida, there are some millions of dollars in tax incentives that they could get for bringing employees. Is the state considering taking some of those incentives away from Disney?
DeSantis replied & said: So, those are not Disney specific, they do not people have been reporting, they're getting all this, they have not qualified for any TAX incentives. I think what people are pointing to is just a general program, that we have for every business.
Now others have pointed out in the legislature some of the things that are really unique to Disney. Over many decades where they have gotten essentially this one corporation put on a pedestal and treated differently not only then other businesses but even on other theme parks and so that is something, I know that they're scrutinizing but there are no special tax breaks that are Disney specific that we would contemplate anything said DeSantis at a news conference.
With Disney, honestly, I don't know if one of the legislators would want to weigh in on it. I mean this is stuff that the legislature has passed some as the governor you know I could be presented with changes to that. I mean I think I've said I'd be receptive to that but ultimately the legislature would have to move forward so I know that there's a lot of discussion about that and we'll see how that shakes out the governor said DeSantis.
Ron DeSantis fires back at Disney Company after the media giant says its "goal" is the repeal of the Parental Rights in Education Act, stating, "This state is governed by the interests of the people of the state of Florida -- it is not based on the demands of California corporate executives."
