Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continued his campaign for re-election on Wednesday, focusing on cultural and war issues. DeSantis has doubled down on his controversial stance on gender-affirming care for minors; he decried the teaching of so-called gender theory in public schools. A topic that has earned him accusations of transphobia and bigotry by many LGBTQ Americans and their allies DeSantis has celebrated his state's commitment to take doctors' medical licenses if they performed gender-firming surgeries on minors as well. The issue has become a hot topic among Republican politicians, who believe it can help them win votes among parents wary of social change. This sentence is currently leading his Democratic challenger Charlie Crist by double digits. DeSantis mentioned in his speech that:

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday campaigned for re-election in Franklin County. The Republican Governor sounded off on a host of culture war issues. including his efforts to ban critical race theory in public schools and combat so-called gender ideology. As Governor DeSantis controversially signed parental rights and education laws, critics called it the "don't say gay" Bill. He has also fought the Disney Corporation following the media giant's open opposition to the law. He is currently polling ahead of his Democratic challenger, Charlie Crist, by double digits, and is seen as a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2024, trailing former President Donald Trump.

He held an event to provide $5,000 bonuses to Cape Coral police officers who "got a baptism by fire" during Hurricane Ian. Explaining his reasons for supporting police officers, Ron DeSantis said the state had drawn a hard line to be a law and order state, and that those who "wear the uniform" keep society from fraying by doing their jobs. He also said media attacks against law enforcement officers had been "damaging" and that those "risking their lives do not have the support" of politicians and communities "since the Floyd riots."
