The goal of ESG investing is to align an investors' values with their investments and to promote sustainable and responsible business practices. However, not everyone is in favor of ESG investing. Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has taken a major step in leveling the playing field for businesses operating within the state. A bill was passed last year that aimed to address some of the privileges that the Walt Disney Company, a major player in the state's tourism industry, has enjoyed over the years. One of the major concerns was that Disney had tax exemptions and advantages that were not available to its competitors like Universal Studios and Sea World.  However, the bill that was passed gives the state the ability to tax Disney for the benefits it has received in the past, and a board will be put in place to determine the value of the property for tax purposes. The Republican Governor sounded off on a host of culture war issues. including his efforts to ban critical race theory in public schools and combat so-called gender ideology. As Governor DeSantis controversially signed parental rights and education laws, critics called it the "don't say gay" Bill. He has also fought the Disney Corporation following the media giant's open opposition to the law. He is currently polling ahead of his Democratic challenger, Charlie Crist, by double digits, and is seen as a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2024, trailing former President Donald Trump.

  Governor Ron DeSantis  Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signs new tax relief legislation in the wake of Hurricane Ian. On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order in Tallahassee, approving tax relief for those affected by Hurricane Ian. The massive storm caused billions of damage in Florida, and its anticipants mobilized and coordinated recovery efforts. The emergency tax legislation, stating that it will help ease the economic burden in the wake of the deadly hurricane, was also praised by DeSantis. DeSantis signed Executive Order (EO) 22-242 to suspend deadlines for payment of property taxes in counties that have been impacted by Hurricane Ian. The Executive Order extends to real property including personal homes and commercial property that was destroyed or otherwise rendered uninhabitable. At a press briefing in Bradenton, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a proposal that would provide 1.1 billion dollars in tax relief. the quote family-focused tax relief would provide exemptions on items like cribs strollers household items under 25 children's books and toys. DeSantis is currently running for re-election against Charlie Crist. Included in the proposal is an expansion of the annual Back to School tax holiday and permanent tax exemptions for baby and toddler items in addition to a yearlong tax exemption on other household items families need every day.
